Before Nicki Minaj came on the scene, New York rapper Remy Ma was making moves in the industry as a female rapper. She has aggressive lyrics and has definitely been named as one of the best female emcees. Remy was apart of the group Terror Squad who had the hit song “Lean Back” which was a fan favorite across the map. Remy Ma also had a hot single that was out called “Conceited” that had people waiting for her album to drop. While in the height of her success, Remy got into an altercation with a friend over $3000.00 which resulted in Remy shooting Makeeda Barnes-Joseph in the stomach. Remy served 6 of the 8 years in prison she was sentenced. Remy was released from prison July 31, 2014. She is married to rapper Papoose and the two have a son.
DJ Khaled posted pics of her on Instagram showing that they are in the studio working on music as we speak. The Makeeda Barnes Joseph also filed an 80,000.00 civil law suit against Remy, so it looks like she needs to make as much money as possible now that she is out.
Fat Joe was like a mentor for Remy, but the two had fallen out before she entered prison. I wonder if they will reconcile.
