Ke Ke Palmer Will Be The First Black Cinderella On Broadway

Things are just going great for Ke Ke Palmer. She is the youngest star ever to have her own talk show which is called “Just Ke Ke” on BET, and now she is set to play Cinderella on Broadway. There has never been a black Cinderella on Broadway and Ke Ke is about to take the stage by storm.  The 20 year old is busy with endorsing Acuvue, working on her talk show and Showtimes Master of Sex. She recently caught up with AP News to discuss becoming Cinderella.

“It’s honestly one of those things that I can’t believe is really happening. I’m very excited. Very excited and nervous as well — a bunch of feelings all at once. I feel like the reason I’m able to do this is definitely because Brandy did it on TV, and me doing this, it shows everybody that everything is possible.[…]Every girl’s dream is that story so to be able to play is going to be a dream come true for me. Not to mention that Stuart Weitzman made the glass slippers I’ll be wearing.

She then caught up with Yahoo to give more insight about the role.

“I am through the roof about this, girl. I cannot believe it. It’s crazy! It’s crazy because I always thought at some point I’d be able to attempt Broadway, so when I got this opportunity and I ended up getting it… are you kidding? It’s crazy. The thing about Broadway that excites me is performing every night and not knowing who’s going to be out there. I don’t know who I might see – I might see Denzel [Washington], I might see Oprah Winfrey, I might see Meryl Streep. That’s the exciting thing about it. And I get to live out my dream every night, performing on stage, acting and singing, and it’s so much energy pumping in the room and so much adrenaline.

I’m the type of person that likes to push myself, but talk about discipline – I’m about to go there to start rehearsals, and this is going to be strict. I know they have vocal regimens to help your vocals stay right… I’m the type of person who likes having that kind of order. But I’m really just excited to be pushed to be at the top of my game.

Yes, I’m the first black Cinderella. I will be the first black Cinderella to ever be on Broadway. It’s so amazing. I don’t think it’s a fully black cast though – I know they’re thinking about some other African American actors for the stepmother, so there’ll be another black person in the cast, but no, it’s not a Wiz-ification. This is the same one that Carly Rae Jepsen just did, same director, just new Cinderella and probably new stepmother.”

“The first show is the second week in September… just thinking about it, it’s just crazy. I go to New York to start rehearsals on August 11. It’s unbelievable to imagine that this is where it’s come. I’m committed to that through January, then I’ll pick back up with more Just Keke.”

That is just awesome for her at just 20 years old. Go girl!
