Umm….okay, it seems everyone wants to be a rapper now and days. Musiq Soulchild is not one of the people I expected to join that list. He says he had to reinvent himself to be marketable because being “Musiq Soulchild” was not bringing in the dough as it should. He has released a mixtape and an explanation as to why he decided to go this route.
“I’m starting this whole new thing. I turn on the radio, and people seem to be feeling the kind of stuff that I’m doing as The Husel. The other brand (Music Soulchild) is R&B. But right now it’s kind of challenging to see or hear that sound being popular right now. For whatever reason, R&B is struggling.
I’m the type of person who likes to entertain people based on what they’re saying entertains them, and right now this sound is what’s entertaining them. As an artist, songwriter and producer I sit back and listen and say, ‘Okay, if that’s what y’all like, I can do that.”
Is R&B really struggling? Has the rap game officially taken over the music scene? Listen to some music from ‘The Husel’.
What do you think? Should he continue or drop the mic?
