Well damn! Rapper turned business mogul Jay Z met with New York City Governor Andrew Cuomo to discuss NYC’s criminal justice policies. He suggested that special prosecutors be appointed to cases that involve police killings. The meeting was said to have been productive, and even included Russell Simmons and Chicago rapper/activist Common. Apparently the NY Post and Fox News (sister companies) were not pleased that the Governor took advice from a former drug dealer.
The two media outlets went on to say that Cuomo needed to get info about crime from a source who knows all about it. Being that Jigga was open about his past with dealing substances, they definitely used that against him. Fox went on to say:
When you need advice on a subject, you go to an expert.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) did just that when he had a policy meeting on the subject of how cops enforce the laws with hip-hop mogul Jay Z — who earned most of his expertise in crime as a crack dealer.
[…]
The rapper built his musical career on songs about his past criminal exploits slinging crack in Brooklyn’s Marcy housing project.
One online report lists 187 references to crack or cocaine on his 12 solo albums, including last year’s chart-topping “Magna Carta Holy Grail.”
In addition to his rap boasts about drug dealing, his criminal justice experience includes being charged with stabbing people and bashing them on their heads with bottles at his favorite city nightclubs.
That’s the ish I don’t like. You bring up a past he hasn’t been apart of in YEARS because he is speaking on topics you and your outlet are afraid to REALLY touch and make that the focus of the article? Fox is known to report fake stories, so for them to be on their high horse is entertaining to me. Jay Z obviously has influence for the Governor to talk policies with him. If it was just Russell Simmons would it had been okay?
That was all the way shady.
