Jermaine Dupri Says Ciara’s “I Bet” Is A Rip Off Of Usher’s “U Got It Bad”

Ciara’s new song “I Bet” is getting a lot of commercial success, but unfortunately it is catching the attention of producer Jermaine Dupri. He says that Ci Ci’s new joint is nothing original. Remember Usher’s 2001 hit “U Got It Bad”? Jermaine produced that song, and he says that Ciara basically stole the sound of it for her song.

Jermaine was commenting on Robin Thicke and Pharrell having to pay Marvin Gaye’s family for stealing his music for using “Blurred Lines”. He says he is now going through the same situation.

Jermaine said:

Ciara’s new single is a complete rip-off of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad.’ I’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. … It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.

Producer Bryan Michael Cox says he immediately noticed the similarity between “I Bet” and Tamia’s 2004 song “Still”. Both Bryan and Jermaine wrote and produced that track.

Jermaine says he doesn’t want a check, but he does want credit that his song did influence the track. He plans on contacting Ciara and the producers Chris “TEK” O’Ryan and Harmony “H-Money” Samuels.

Listen to the three songs…can you tell the similarity? I have to admit, I didn’t think about it until I found out about this story. I started to hum “I Bet” and then “U Got It Bad”….definitely similar. The jury is still out for Still.
