Since Janet Jackson announced to world that she was pregnant, stories have been buzzing about the secret daughter she was said to have when she was a teenager. The said father of the child, James DeBarge is finally telling his truth.
So back in 1984 Janet married James DeBarge when she was in her late teens. They went their separate ways the next year, and this is supposedly when Janet got pregnant. Now my mother told me back in the 90’s about this but it was never talked about in the media. I have a family member that used to date one of the DeBarges, and confirmed this with my family back in the day.
According to DeBarge however, 2 years ago, a young lady reached out to him saying he was her father and Janet was her mother.
“Someone had contacted me. She spoke to me by email,” he said. “The first time was two years ago. I have not been able to directly see her face-to-face.”
He says the young lady suggested they take a paternity test, but he has yet to agree because he is afraid.
“She did but without saying [it],” he said. “She was angry because another child was trying to come forward and say that she was our child. So she did out of anger.”
He says that the woman claiming to be his daughter had facts that only he, Janet and God would know.
“She described as much as she could tell me because she was very fearful at the time,” he continued. “She was very angry about people running with this story about this [other child] being my baby. She got very angry. She’s like, ‘Papa I want to help you out.’ She had so much of personality and she was so accurate with everything she was saying, it was only things that I and Janet know. No one else but god, me and Janet.”
DeBarge says she didn’t want Janet to have any problems, and asked to keep their interactions privately.
“She didn’t want to get her mom in trouble. She wanted to do it quietly. She didn’t even want Janet to know.”
DeBarge says Janet gave the baby up for adoption, and the girl’s adoptive mother told her this news, while on her deathbed. Now James says he also heard the rumors about Janet having a kid but couldn’t find any information online to prove that.
“I hadn’t known [that Janet had a baby]… not for sure,” he said. “I went on a search. Someone went through some serious changes to make it impossible for me to find. This had to be some serious inside work being done with the paperwork. Someone was working with them.”
“I was hurt and I didn’t know why I was hurt,” he said. “I think I was hurt because I had mixed emotions. I felt kind of left out and I felt like it was unfair. At first, I felt like this was the worst thing in the world that happened to me. I was so depressed by it at first.”
“It would have to be hidden from me if she wasn’t a part of my life all the time and I didn’t know anything about her,” he explained. “There’s no way it could not have been hidden. I didn’t know. Had I known, I would never have kept it a [secret]. I would have been very proud of her.”
DeBarge says he can understand why Janet would make that decision. He says they received so much flack for their relationship, and he knows Janet was told the baby would ruin her career.
He also said her family or camp had him assaulted.
“They didn’t want us to have anything,” he said. “There were times when I was jumped, physically, and attacked. It was dangerous to the point that I was afraid to go outside.”
In 1994, James DeBarge’s mother Etterlene DeBarge told Star Magazine that she believed Janet Jackson had gotten pregnant. She says Janet got sent away for a long time, and when she came back she ended she and James’ marriage. She said she saw Janet before she left and was clearly pregnant, and wasn’t fooling anyone.

Here is the woman many people believe is Janet’s daughter. Her name is Stevanna who is said to be Randy Jackson’s daughter, but if the story is true about her being adopted and the adoptive mother dying, this can’t be her…unless she made the story up to not allow her family to know she was in contact with DeBarge
This young lady obviously knows Joe Jackson.
Janet’s camp has not made any comment on this situation.
DeBarge and the woman should meet, and if he is the father, they can have a relationship without Janet.
