Meet The Youngest Candidate In History Running For Mayor In Detroit.

Although I am barely home,  I have a special place in my heart for my hometown of Detroit, MI. One person who also wants to see the city of Detroit win is Ken Snapp, a 21 year old who is trying to make  a difference.

Kenneth Snapp was born and raised on the Eastside of Detroit, to Gino and Jennifer Snapp. Ken is the son of a dedicated UAW member employed by General Motors. Ken’s parents instilled in him high moral values which he still abides by today. Education was the key to his early success, as his mother, an educator in Detroit’s Public Schools and ordained minister of a Christian Methodist Episcopal Church pushed her son to early heights.

Both hard working parents were highly influential developing this emerging leader. Ken has acted as a Student Ambassador to countries such as; France, Italy, and Greece. He completed missionary work in Greece cleaning the beaches of Athens, learning Greek culture from the locals representing the United States with integrity and leadership. Ken is a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School and gives back to the community with involvement in the early development of Detroit youth.

The former Cass Tech football player has also helped co- found the Project: Restore School Pride, which is an initiative put in place by his efforts along with other team members. There was an opportunity to help children attending Detroit Public Schools find their passion in life by creating an enjoyable school environment.  Project Restore School Pride started off with Ronald Brown Academy, with plans to grow this program city wide.

Guided by City Pride, Ken Snapp has been a significant contributor to the Moross Greenway Project where he gladly assisted with beautifying concentrated areas on Detroit’s Eastside. Ken is currently studying political science with a concentration as a political analyst.

Ken has set his self apart as he pursues his career in politics by running for Mayor of the City of Detroit in 2017. Ken Snapp’s main political views are: education, with a focus on child education, lowering property taxes, along with better taxpayer initiatives, and ending homelessness in the City. Which are all major problems for the inner city.

Today on February 15th, 2017 Mr. Snapp officially announces his that he is running the race to be the Mayor of Detroit.  In his announcement his says,

“Today I am humbled to announce my bid for Mayor of the City of Detroit. This decision comes with deepest concern for our city’s resilient citizens on the heels of a tipping point for a seemingly better future. Detroiters are ready to embrace a progressive agenda with new progressive leadership that shows concern for every individual.”

Ken Snapp is no stranger to helping make the city of Detroit a better place. He has received “The Spirit of Detroit Award” three consecutive years in a row and the “Wayne County Commissioners Award.” Currently, Ken Snapp is nominated as an Emerging Leader for the 2017 African American Leadership Awards.

This is the era of the millennials, and this grass roots political strategist is ready to make Detroit great again. We had a lot to say about people not going to the poles for the presidency race, yet we don’t go out and vote for our own leaders within our communities.
