I have been wondering when and if soul singer D’Angelo would release more music. He has not released a project in about 14 years……14 years! The singer is back with a new album called Black Messiah. I am actually listening to it as I type this to you. The songs I have listened to so far are so melodic.
You can really hear the instruments and his soulful voice over them is amazing. He is giving us a spiritual and funk meets R&B type of vibe with this record. He has some messages in some of the songs like “1000 Deaths” and “Til It’s Done”. His vocals are the same as they were 14 years ago. You can hear the strong Prince influence.
He wants the fans to know the name “Black Messiah” is all about empowerment. He says:
Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can easily be misunderstood. Many will easily think it’s about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I’m calling myself a “Black Messiah” . For me, the title is all about is….we should aspire to be a Black Messiah”.
This is definitely something special if you are a TRUE music lover, or a D’Angelo fan. If you only want to hear about twerking, panty dropping and turning up…..this is not for you.
