For an entire month, a 17 year old boy put on a white lab coat and pretended to be Dr. Robinson at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach Florida. While pretending to be an anesthesiologist, the boy was never questioned by any doctor nor security guard in the facility.
A patient alerted staff and told them that a young black male who appeared to be a child was dressed as a doctor. When police arrived and approached the teen, he had a stethoscope around his neck, was wearing a face mask, a lab coat with the St. Mary’s logo, and identified himself as being a doctor.
Police also questioned the hospital staff, and was told that the boy was seen in an examination room accompanied by a doctor. That same doctor said the teen left him a note asking him to shadow him.
A rep for the hospital has released a statement:
The individual never had contact with any hospital patients and did not gain access to any patient care areas of the hospital at any time. The hospital immediately notified local authorities, who took the individual into custody, and we are cooperating with their ongoing investigation
The teens mother told police her son has an illness and had stopped taking his medication.
Police and the hospital decided not to press any charges.
