New York rapper Prodigy of the iconic rap duo ‘Mobb Deep’ has passed away at 42.
Prodigy was hospitalized after a show in Las Vegas due to complications of sickle-cell anemia. The exact cause of death is still unknown at this time according to his publicist. TMZ originally reported he choked on eggs in the hospital. Whether that is true or not is up in the air.
Prodigy, whose real name was Albert Johnson, suffered with sickle-cell since birth. He was a pioneer in the rap game making a name for himself, along with fellow group mate and long time childhood friend Havoc. The group had hit songs such as Quiet Storm Remix, Shook Ones Pt II and Got It Twisted. The group is known for their album ‘The Infamous’ was and still is one of the most influential albums in hip-hop.

He was born into a family of musicians with his mother Fatima being apart of the hit girl group The Crystals, and his grandfather was Budd Johnson who was a jazz saxophonist that helped create the lane for bebop jazz. Music was in his blood.
Prodigy is survived by his wife, Ikesha Dudley; his son, T’Shaka; his daughter, Fahtasia; his brother, Greg; his stepdaughter, Kiejzonna Dudley; and his step-granddaughter, Brooklyn Harris.
Celebs mourned the loss of the rapper and explained that June 20th is another sad day in hip-hop history.
