Charlamagne may face sexual assault of a minor charges.

June 9, 2001 the then 22-year-old Leonard McKelvey (Charlamagne) was accused of raping a teenage girls in his home state of South Carolina. According to the report, Malika Joyner and Jessica Reid were so intoxicated that they did not know where they were nor how they got there. Jessica Reid was crying uncontrollably and said repeatedly she needed help and wanted to go home. Joyner was able to tell the police that an unknown person picked them up from their home and gave them a drink that tasted like soda. That was the last thing she remembered before waking up to a man trying to kiss her.

Joyner says she forced him off of her and found Reid who says she was raped and called her mom and 911. The report goes on to say that there were no suspects found in the home when the police arrived. They noted that one of the bedrooms was a mess and had bed sheets balled up in the middle of the bed. Next to those sheets was Reid’s bracelet.

Charlamagne was eventually arrested but Prosecutors felt he may not be convicted so they offered him the lesser charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was sentenced to 3 years of probation. The case was disposed in 2002. Now Nicole Reid is coming forward saying she never received closure and is still struggling with what happened. She wants the case to be re-opened being South Carolina has no statute of limitations on prosecution for criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Charlamagne has discussed this situation publicly but of course the story is different.

Take a look at the full police report.

As of July 11, 2018 South Carolina Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson issued a statement saying the dismissed rape charge against McKelvey will not be resurrected and the law presumes him “innocent of the dismissed allegation.”

A petition has been launched to remove Charlamagne from his morning radio show ‘The Breakfast Club’. iHeart radio has yet to make a statement.
