Aaliyah’s album “One In A Million” was released on streaming platforms after a long battle between her uncle, music producer Barry Hankerson, and her estate owned by her mother Diane Haughton and brother Rashad Haughton. The family members have been at odds for years over making the decision on releasing Aaliyah’s music. When Hankerson was asked why he did not release her music, including unreleased projects, he simply replied he was trying to consent to the wishes of his sister. He says he had been waiting for her to change her mind.
When the news dropped that her music would hit streaming platforms August 20th, 2021, Aaliyah’s estate posted an official statement saying, “For 20 years we have battled behind the scenes, enduring shadowy tactics of deception…”.
Fans of Aaliyah are excited to be able to listen to her music again, but some agree with her mom and brother, and feels her uncle is doing it for monetary gain. He signed a distribution deal to release other albums on streaming platform, such as Toni Braxton’s “Libra”, Tank “Sex, Love & Pain”, Timbaland & Magoo “Indecent Proposal”, and more.
If her brother was over this he most definitely would have worked with the fans. Barry is a narc and evil as fuck. #istandwithaaliyah https://t.co/tNXA4JEPOP

So here's where I'm at with the Aaliyah situation cuz we've been waiting over 20 years for her music to be re-released so #AaliyahIsComing and we're here for it. But I will not support new material as who is to say that is what she would want? #IStandWithAaliyah

Now despite some fans saying they won’t be streaming, “One In A Million” had 5 million streams.
How do you feel? Are you going to stream the album?
