Joyner Lucas is one of the latest celebrities to accuse Karen Civil of having shady business practices. The rapper accused her of stealing 60k and going on vacation, instead of handling business on his brand’s behalf. The two went toe to toe on Clubhouse and things got heated.
Joyner took to his Instagram and posted the details of what he says happened. (Scroll left). He joins other celebs like Meek Mill and Cam’Ron that have called Civil out for bad business practices.
So Saturday afternoon, a room on the Clubhouse app was created by close friend to Nipsey Hussle named Kita Trotter, and named “Karen Civil Been A Fraud” and Karen showed up to give her side of what went down with Joyner. She denies stealing money and claims she spent the money on the back end of things with radio, promo etc, based on what was in his budget. She claims she sent Joyner’s team receipts of where his money went. She told the moderators,
“It was 7 years ago, and I’m not the only person. When somebody hires you, let me explain this for people in here. When somebody hires you, you do not keep the full fund. I don’t get to walk away…and I don’t even think it was 60,000, I think he’s going off Cam’s number when he was mad I did Ty Stone’s interview, but this is not even referring to Cam. He’s referring to 60,000, whatever the number was at the time. He has the contracts, right? I believe he posted …that goes to a radio person was hired, a PR person was hired, a mixshow person was hired, there are people that are allotted to that budget, it wasn’t only me.”
She went on to say that she was sorry if Joyner felt like he was not where his career should have been at the time.
“I have to remember when certain talent comes into this, and they see you working with a Nipsey, YG or a Jeezy or whoever else, and they think I’m gonna get the same hotness. It takes time…it’s not something that’s built overnight and I actually wanted to have a conversation with him. He didn’t want to have a conversation with me, he wanted to have a conversation on social”.
Joyner then pulled up to the room to tell his side of the story in detail. He says his investor asked if he was sure he should send the money to Karen, but he said yes because his close associate that referred him to her said she was “solid’. He said from her work with Nipsey, he decided to work with her.
Joyner said, “At the time I was fucked up. I had an investor, he had already kicked up so much money, and the only thing that I had left was a little bit of bread left, and which we chose to hire you. That was a big decision on our behalf because that was all that was really left of the budget at that time. That was a big time in my life. My son was about to just be born, I had an investor that kicked up hundreds of thousands of dollars, you know on behalf of me, and at that time hiring you was the last ditch effort to do something, and I really believed in the name Karen Civil.” “I heard you say earlier radio got paid…such and such…nowhere in this memo does it say anything about radio. We were already playing radio” “We didn’t pay you for that, that’s not why we got you!”.
Karen sticks to her story saying she spent the money properly, but Joyner and his team said they never got any receipts.
Check out the discussion below. She also speaks a little on Jessie Woo and beef with Jason Lee from Hollywood Unlocked (she admitted to paying a hacker to delete Jason’s account because a client of hers wanted a story taken down.)
After that Karen and Joyner left the room, but everyone kept saying that Karen never said where the money actually went. Love & Hip Hop star and singer Teairra Mari was one of the moderators, and she posed the question, “where the fuck did the money go?”. She went on to say that if you receive 60k you should be sending an invoice and a paid invoice receipt to who hired you. Wack100 was also in the room, but he says he doesn’t work that way, and verbal confirmation is just as good as an invoice. What he did say though is that it sounded like Karen had some other people to pay that Joyner did not know about, but also that it sounded like Joyner’s manager was in on taking a cut of that 60 grand.
Audience members chimed in, and said they felt Karen was talking in circles going from one topic to the other. The guy Shawn, on Joyner’s team that is referenced in the audio was supposedly texted by one of the moderators and asked if he ever got any receipts from Karen. The moderator said his reply was he never got anything.
