After thanking 3 of the St. Lunatics‘ group members in his “I Am Hip-Hop” award acceptance speech, rapper Nelly allegedly sends a cease and desist letter to the member he did not thank (Ali), to stop use of the “St. Lunatics” name for all members.
On the BET Hip Hop Awards 21 show, Nelly called the names of Kyjuan, Murphy Lee and Slow Down for helping him get to where he is today, even saying that he loved them to death.
Now if you did not know, there is bad blood between Nelly and Ali. Ali claims Nelly snaked the group to advance his solo career. Ali says he has even wrote lyrics for Nelly, and also saying that he, not Nelly, is the person that started the group.
On his Instagram, Ali, who now goes by Poppa Leezy, said that he received a letter in the mail from Nelly’s attorney saying that he and the other members of the group are not allowed to use “St. Lunatics” in any fashion because Nelly had it trademarked.

Ali went live to give his thoughts, saying Nelly was showing fake love for the group during his awards speech. He says he is more upset because it affects how Murph, Kyjuan and Slo Down handle business as far as using the St. Lunatics name for shows or appearances. He says , “You been getting over since 2003, and it hurt so bad”.
He also went on to say that he and Nelly are currently in litigation right now, and that Nelly may want to tread lightly because he knows where the “bodies” are hidden. Says he has all the reference tracks to prove he wrote some of Nelly’s songs. But the “bodies” also reference other secrets he says he has kept for the Country Grammar rapper. He says if Nelly wants to bring out dirt against him, then he wants all the smoke. Ali accused Nelly of being a pill popper. He says he used to pop pill after pill just to keep up with Nelly. He also alleges he has damaging video footage.
Ali says Nelly is not who the world thinks he is, and calls him “grotesque”.
According to Ali’s post, Nelly just recently filed for the trademark in September of this year. He says Nelly doesn’t want him to have a dime off what they made.
