According to Page Six, Traci Braxton had a request that in the event she passed away, she did not want a funeral. Her sisters are reportedly very upset to learn her husband Kevin Surrat created a zoom link for people to view her body.
Traci passed away a few weeks ago after she battled esophageal cancer for a year privately. See Related: RIP: Traci Braxton Passes Away From Cancer.
A Braxton insider told Page Six, “Traci did not want a funeral or wake. She did not want people looking all over her body. She specifically requested to be immediately cremated… There was a Zoom meeting that made it clear about what she wanted, and now her husband is trying to cash in on her name”.
Kevin held a viewing for Traci last week, but her mother Evelyn and sisters Toni, Towanda, Trina and Tamar did not attend. The insider also says that their father Michael Braxton Sr. did show up, but was turned away for not being on the guest list. Someone else attending the funeral recognized him and brought him inside, but he had to sit on the fourth row.
Kevin told Page Six, “my father-in-law and brother-in-law came in briefly”. He also insisted that he invited the sisters but, “they did not show up.”
Kevin went on to say that he honored exactly what his late wife wanted.
“I was with my wife… more than anybody in this world. I know my wife, and when she got cancer, we really started to communicate about funeral plans and I was still trying to find treatments for her. I went to every single one of her doctor appointments throughout our entire marriage. That’s how we were, and now they’re treating me like a [deadbeat] husband,” he said. He went on to say that Traci “wanted a viewing and one memorial service in conjunction with her management, PR and other members to come together and celebrate her.”
Another insider says that the celebration of Traci’s life was a “whole production”. Kevin’s team reached out to gospel singers like Byron Cage and Kim Burrell to perform, but they pulled out finding out the Braxton sisters were not involved.
One of the insiders says that Traci’s request to have a private memorial will still be honored. Her big sister Toni Braxton confirmed on the Tamron Hall Show, that they will hold the memorial on April 2nd, which would have been Traci’s 51’st birthday.
Kevin confirmed the memorial and says he was not invited.
We hope they can figure it out. Nobody wins when the family feuds.
