A man was rescued after being trapped inside a Little Caesar’s pizza oven vent in Lithonia, GA.
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Brittany Davis arrived to her recruitment office Tuesday July 12th, when she heard someone screaming from next door and called 911.
Dekalb county police and fire rescue arrived on the scene trying to help find where the screams were coming from. Sgt. Davis and a Little Caesar’s employee walked around to try and find where the screams were coming from, when they realized it was coming from inside the pizza establishment.
A man was trapped in the exhaust pipe that allows heat to flow through the top of the building. I definitely did not expect this,” Davis told the news station WGCL. “We actually stepped back to see if maybe someone was on top of the roof.”
Rescue officials jumped into action as the man was heard saying he could not breathe and was having a panic attack. As the vent was cut open, you could see just how small of a space he was in. “I’m glad that our guys, in particular our heavy rescue unit, carries a lot of different tools and we were able to use a lot of them today to get him out safely,” said Captain Jaeson Daniels, a spokesman for DeKalb County Fire & Rescue.
Once he was fully removed, the man was handcuffed and escorted to the hospital to treat dehydration and friction burns on his arms from where he slid down the shaft. The fire and rescue staff say they will leave the consequences of him being in the shaft to be determined by PD, but it was apparent why he was inside of it.
The man is very lucky the oven was not turned on, or he himself would have become hot and ready.
