On January 12, 2023 Sammie’s mother Angila Baxter was shooting at random cars when a bullet struck and killed 27-year-old Nekaybaw Collier. Collier was both a wife and mother. She was transported to hospital after she was found unresponsive in a crashed car less than a mile away from home, in the 5200 block of Powers Drive. Collier had been shot in her abdomen, with one bullet hole observed on the driver’s side of her vehicle, the affidavit states. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to reports, Baxter was seen walking around yelling and cursing at random people inside of the area. She was arrested on January 19th, and in her interview, she claims she does not remember the day of the shooting. She then went on to say that she believed she was being followed by multiple cars. Eventually she admitted to shooting at vehicles.
An eye witness flagged down deputies and said a woman had just shot at him on North Pine Hills Road, near the intersection of Belco Drive. Another witness reported that Baxter pulled up next to her car screaming expletives before shooting at her car twice. A third witness named Baxter as the woman who was shooting at cars that same day. She told police that a woman in a red SUV stopped next to her and said “Why the (expletive) are you following me? Who are you?” before the victim drove off and heard two thumps from the back of her vehicle, later determined to be from gunfire. The witness also identified Baxter in a photo line up on Jan. 14.
Sammie made a posted a statement on his Instagram asking for privacy, and giving condolences to the Collier family.
Baxter is being held in the Orange County Jail. The sheriff’s office also obtained a temporary risk protection order to ensure Baxter has no further access to guns. The 56 year old is facing a 2nd degree murder charge. She has been denied bond.
