I absolutely adored Aaliyah’s raw talent. She was definitely one in a million to a lot of people. She is very well respected in the music game today. It will be 13 years this August since baby girl has been gone. I still remember the news about her death, it was devastating as I was a fan of her music and she was from my hometown Detroit, MI. There has been talks of a biopic for years now and it looks like it has finally got the green light.

Aaliyah’s family was initially against the movie being made for some reason. Now, the movie is in pre-production  and casting has been completed. Looks like the production company will be choosing Vh1 to debut the film. Vh1 also aired the biopic of TLC which was a hit. A potential actress gushed about the audition process. Her name is Tristian Mays and she was one of the many hopefuls to play Aaliyah.  On her Instagram she posted pics of her and Aaliyah side by side as well with explaining what she went through and how she did not get the part.

Normally I wouldn’t do something like this. But a very close friend of mine, @loganlaurice, gave me the courage to speak up about something that’s been pending and sitting on my heart. Today, I can’t be upset that I didn’t book the role I worked so hard for. This may have been the most difficult, emotional, inspiring, and lengthy audition process I’ve ever experienced. Getting the chance to portray someone I’ve always loved and admired so much was a blessing every single step of the way. I invested every ounce of my body mind and soul into this process and I can honestly say I’m proud of myself. God definitely has something incredible in store for me. A huge thank you to everyone who believed in me and spoke up for me in the room. And a huge congratulations to everyone in the cast!#TheAaliyahStory. Like Logan said, you’re satisfied no matter the outcome of things that aren’t in your control. -Tristin Mays

The movie ‘One In A Million’ will debut on Aaliyah’s 14th anniversary of her passing, August 25, 2014. I already know I am going to be full of tears as her story was tragic and ended so early in her life. She was a beautiful person and seemed so down to earth with everyone she met. Let’s watch an Aaliyah video to hold us over til the movie airs.
