With me turning the big 3-0 next year, I realized that as many places that I have traveled to, that I have not really experienced any places that blew me away. Sure I have been to Las Vegas, LA, Orlando and surrounding areas, but I have yet to get any stamps on my passport. So I decided it’s time for me to experience more than that Chicago trip and really see the world. I’ve discovered some of the top places to travel in 2016, let’s see what they have to offer.  

Belize:

If you are a backpacker or someone who loves to explore, Belize is the place for you. With lots of Maya Ruins around, there is much history to see in the excavated ruins, that are in walking distance. Because the country has a low population, it is filled with tropical wildlife thanks to the rain forests.

Now if animals and wildlife are your thing, then you will probably love to see the world’s only Jaguar preserve, different exotic birds and other animals in their natural habitat. You can also zip line across the jungle if you want a rush of excitement. Many people like to bathe and swim in the waterfalls. Jumping off the rocks isn’t my preference but it looks like people have fun doing it.

If you love to scuba dive or ever wanted to try it, check out The Great Blue Hole in the ocean. Located just a few miles off the coast of Belize, this attraction is popular divers and snorkelers all around. They say you need a submarine to get all the way to the bottom. Are you up for that challenge?

Now since I am a foodie, you have to know what kind of good eats they have to offer. Seafood is the biggest player here.

Gourmet lobster, sea bass, conch, swordfish or shrimp with fresh veggies are the norm in Belize. Fresh produce is shipped daily to the island.

The weather is warm almost year round, so staying at a resort on one of the islands in December can definitely happen. White sand, warm waters and a variety of adventurous things to do, makes Belize one of the top destinations to visit.

Cape Town, South Africa:

We always see the most depressing pictures of Africa in the media. What we don’t see is that Africa has some of the most prestige areas for tourists.

Who wouldn’t want to relax with this type of scenery around them? You get white sand beaches, mountains, harbors and gardens all in one place.

If hiking up and through the mountains sound more like a hassle, Cape Town offers you a ride on a cable car to the top of the mountain. Once at the top, you can enjoy lunch and wine at the cafe.

The beaches in Cape Town are breathtaking. There are many beach homes for rent, so if you want to go to sleep and wake up to the ocean, this may be the route for you.

Beachfront bars are not uncommon here. Cabana’s, the sunset and beach bar sound like a great plan to me!

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is the ultimate tourist attraction. They have amazing restaurants, open bar catamaran cruises and lots of shopping opportunities.

Alright foodies, it’s that time again. One place that stands out in Cape Town is a restaurant called Royale Eatery. It’s a burger joint.
Not just any other burger joint. On their website they describe their burgers as” burgers that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true.”

This place also has a rooftop bar if you want a burger and a few shots of Brandy.

You can’t visit the motherland without going on a safari!

Traveling within the country to other parts is fairly inexpensive, so don’t limit yourself to just one area.

Lastly on the list is ….

Italy:

Now I chose this place because being the true Libra I am, I love romance! Italy was voted as being the best place to travel to with your significant other. The other perk about going to Italy is that get multiple trips in one vacation. We’ll get into that a little later.

Let’s talk scenery!

It’s like something right out of a painting in a romantic movie. Italy is very rustic and quaint. If you want peace and serenity, the atmosphere in the Italian villages are everything you need. Being known for their wine, the villages in italy make you want to walk around, pick flowers and just drink wine all day. They say Italy has the most relaxing scenery of all countries.

Now earlier I told you visiting Italy was like taking multiple vacations in one. The reason is the historic cities of Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan and Verona are all close together. Who wouldn’t want to come to Italy and not see Rome, Venice and Milan at the same damn time?
They have a train system that can take you to them all.

Now you cannot visit Venice and not take a gondola boat ride.

Looks like they make them as comfortable as possible.

As you can tell by now I love beaches! This is one of the beaches off the Venetian coast. Turquoise waters and white sand….yes please! They say the best times to come is in the spring for perfect weather. Can you picture yourself there? I can.

Now if you’re a history buff or you just want great pictures for memories, then visiting some of Italy’s most historic sites is what you need to do.  From visiting the Colosseum in Rome, to the leaning Tower of Pisa, to one of the many cathedrals.

Alright the most important part….the food!

Italy is known for fresh pizza and pasta. Italy has over 300 types of pasta dishes that they make. I can barely think of 3 when trying to make pasta different from the last.

One of the recommended places to eat is Club Del Dodge in Venice. You can sit along the water and enjoy a good meal.

Italy is also known for their desserts like Tiramisu and Gelato.

 

Now this is real ice cream.

I hope this article has inspired some of you to go outside your own backyard and experience  different cultures. Go get your passport and enjoy as they say in Italy ‘La Dolce Vita’ which means the good life!
