Actress Sherri Shepard has been going through a legal battle with her ex husband for quite some time now. She and Lamar Sally decided when they were still married that they would have a child together via surrogate, because in 2011, Sherri found out she couldn’t have kids anymore.
The two started to go through a nasty divorce, where Sherri decided since they were splitting, she didn’t want to have anything to do with the child. Sally then petitioned the court to make Sherri pay child support. A judge has ruled in the fathers favor.
What’s crazy to me is that they used Sally’s sperm but not Sherri’s or the surrogate’s eggs for the baby to be born. Sherri soon began to feel that Sally only wanted to have the baby to get her money in the bank for the next 18 years.
Since Lamar Jr was born 8 months ago, and Lamar Sr says he has been struggling to take care of him. He has had to apply for Medical (California Medicaid) which caused the state to go after the surrogate, 23 year old Jessica Bartholome, since she is listed as the non custodial parent on the birth certificate.
Now the judge has ruled that Sherri is the legal mother of Lamar Jr. Lamar Sr. told People Magazine that the win is bittersweet, but he is glad it is over and he can go back to LA and take care of his son.
According to Lamar’s attorney, they won the case because Sherri initially was recorded saying how excited she was for the baby to be born, so the judge is like …nah Sherri…you can’t back out now.
Sherri has yet to see baby Lamar.
Unfortunately, he will grow up feeling abandoned by his “legal mother” if Sally doesn’t re-marry. Just sad.
